8 Weeks Before the Move:

  •  Decide on a moving date.
  • Create a budget for your move.
  • Research and hire a reputable moving company or reserve a rental truck.
  •  Notify your current landlord (if applicable) or real estate agent about your move.
  •  Start decluttering your home by donating, selling, or disposing of items you no longer need.
  •  Begin collecting packing supplies like boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and packing paper.

6 Weeks Before the Move:

  •  Notify your current utility companies (electricity, gas, water, internet, cable, etc.) of your moving date.
  •  Transfer or set up utilities at your new address.
  • Inform your post office of your upcoming address change.
  • Start packing items you use infrequently.
  • Label your moving boxes with their contents and the room they belong to.

4 Weeks Before the Move:

  •  Confirm your moving date and details with the moving company.
  •  Notify your healthcare providers and update your medical records if you’re moving to a new area.
  •  Contact your children’s school to arrange for school records transfer.
  •  Arrange transportation for pets and ensure they are up to date on vaccinations.
  •  Create an inventory of valuable items and consider additional insurance coverage if needed.
  •  Start packing essential items you won’t need before the move.

2 Weeks Before the Move:

  •  Notify friends and family about your new address.
  • Schedule time off work for moving day.
  •  Confirm travel arrangements if you’re moving long-distance.
  •  Disassemble furniture and pack it securely.

1 Week Before the Move:

  •  Finish packing and label all remaining boxes.
  • Pack a “First-Night” box with essential items.
  •  Confirm the moving company’s arrival time and contact information.
  •  Empty and clean out your home, including appliances, if necessary.
  •  Double-check all rooms and closets for forgotten items.

Moving Day:

  •  Ensure you have all important documents, keys, and your “First-Night”box on hand.
  • Supervise the movers and provide any necessary instructions.
  • Do a final walkthrough to ensure nothing is left behind.
  • Lock all doors and windows before leaving.

After the Move:

  •  Unpack and settle into your new home.
  •  Update your address with banks, insurance companies, and other service providers.
  • Register your new address with the local post office.
  •  Familiarize yourself with your new neighborhood and locate essential services.
  •  Dispose of packing materials and boxes responsibly.
